Am I Just "Heat-y" or Actually Having a Fever? Here’s How to Tell!

Help! Am I just feeling "heat-y" (Yeet Hay), or am I coming down with a fever? 🔥 3 minutes to learn the difference—stop chugging herbal tea blindly!
You’re not catching a cold, you’re not runny-nosed, but you feel feverish, and your throat is parched. In Malaysia, our go-to explanation is: "Aiya, I'm just heat-y!"
But the biggest mistake is confusing "Internal Heat" with an actual "Fever." If you drink the wrong cooling tea, you might end up feeling even worse! Today, I’ve broken it down into simple terms. Save this, and the next time you feel "off," you’ll know exactly what to do!
🚦 Quick Check: Which one are you?

🔥 Scenario A: "Internal Heat" (Yeet Hay)
Temperature: You feel like you’re burning inside, but your thermometer shows a normal reading.
Throat: Feels dry and scratchy, like there’s a fire smoldering in there.
Mood: Irritable, restless, bad breath, or occasional mouth ulcers (ulcerations).
Skin: Prone to breakouts—especially those big, angry red pimples.

🌡️ Scenario B: "Actual Fever"
Temperature: Your thermometer reads above 37.5°C.
Throat: Swallowing is painful; you might see redness or white patches (pus) at the back of the throat.
Mood: Generalized weakness, chills (shivering), muscle aches, and an overwhelming desire to sleep.
Skin: Skin feels hot to the touch; you may break into cold sweats.
Why are you getting "Heat-y"? (Guilty of these?)
In TCM, "Internal Heat" is a sign of Yin-Yang imbalance.
In Malaysia, we usually fall into these traps:
The Night Owl: Staying up late drains your body’s "coolant" (Yin), and the internal fire takes over.
The Foodie: Had Sambal Belacan, fried chicken, or durian yesterday? That’s "Excess Heat"!
The High-Stress Professional: Deadlines, traffic jams, and anxiety make your "Liver Fire" shoot right up.
⚠️ Stop Drinking Random Herbal Tea!
Not all "Heat" is the same.
There are two types:
"Excess Fire" (实火): Tongue is very red, bad breath, constipation.
Solution: Cooling herbal teas like 24-Herb Tea are fine.
"Deficiency Fire" (虚火): Tongue is red but lacks coating, palms/soles are hot, sweating at night.
Solution: Do NOT chug bitter cooling tea! It will make you weaker. You need to "Nourish Yin" with herbs like Sha Shen and Mai Dong.
🆘 When should you visit us?
Stop playing doctor if:
Recurrent Heat: You’ve been drinking cooling tea for days with no relief.
Persistent Fatigue: You feel like you’re in a "Sub-Health" state where the fire never goes away.
Acupuncture for Circulation: Sometimes, "heat" is just energy trapped by blocked meridians. Acupuncture can often clear that "fire" much faster than herbal tea!
